We are delighted to let you know that the profits from the September 2014 Serenata Kriti Festival raised €700 with which we were able to buy, at the request of the Paediatric Team in Chania Hospital, an oxygen machine which monitors the amount of oxygen in the blood, and two thermometers specially designed for babies and children. The photo shows the lovely consultant and some of his team. We will continue this relationship with future festivals.

SERENATA KRITI IN THE NEWS

We were delighted by this article about the festival in Kritiki Epitheorisi!

SERENATA KRITI – SPREADING THE LOVE FOR CLASSICAL MUSIC.

Serenata Kriti is a new cultural activity started by two English ladies who live on our island and who want to share their passion for classical music with their Cretan friends.  Serenata Kriti aims to hold concerts mainly in Western Crete as these two ladies live in the Apokoronas area.

Last year the first concerts were held with great success in Apokoronou, Chania and Rethymnon, and this year in May will be held again in the same areas.

Moira Webber and Janelle Tressider, together with Gabriel Gavrilakis, spoke to Team FM about the aims of Serenata Kriti.

The two ladies have had professional experience in the world of music and also with radio and television in England so, as they now reside in Crete, decided to share their passion for classical music with their Cretan friends, especially as they have the knowledge and the contacts overseas.  The Serenata Kriti group’s aim is the spreading of classical music, so well known artists of paneuropean fame have been enlisted to give concerts in Crete.

“We will have the opportunity to listen to world reknowned musicians here in Crete without having to travel overseas” noted Mr. Gavrilakis.

Mrs. Webber also noted that the first festivals held last year showed that there is a great following of classical music here in Crete and that it’s great success was appreciated by the performing musicians.

Serenata Kriti aims to donate all proceeds of these concerts to philanthropic institutions – last year’s proceeds were given to the Red Cross.

Moira Webber, who has lived in Crete for over 2 years and Janelle Tressider for 5 years, noted that the present economic crisis the country is going through, with people struggling to survive, is one of the main reasons that lead them to organise these festivals, so as to give the population some pleasure in these difficult times.  As their incomes come from overseas, their lives are not as much affected by the present crisis, but they do realise what their friends are going through.  However, they said without hesitation, that they would recommend Crete to any of their overseas friends who might be thinking of moving, as it is a country they have come to love, along with its people.
